Describe

More than 70 years ago, after the August Revolution succeeded, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born, our people had not yet enjoyed the joy of independence when the French colonialists returned to invade our country once again. With his strategic vision, President Ho Chi Minh predicted the enemy's sinister plot. He directed the return to Viet Bac to build a safe zone to prepare for the resistance against the French. He affirmed that "If the revolution is successful in Viet Bac, the resistance will be victorious in Viet Bac". In March 1947, on his journey back to the Viet Bac resistance base, on the way, Uncle Ho stopped and worked in Phu Tho for a month. From March 4 to March 18, 1947, Uncle Ho stayed and worked in Co Tiet commune, Tam Nong district; From March 19 to March 29, 1947, Uncle Ho lived and worked in Chu Hoa commune, Lam Thao district (now Viet Tri city). At 7:00 p.m. on March 29, 1947, Uncle Ho and the Central delegation left Chu Hoa along National Highway 2 through Tien Kien, Phu Loc, Phu Ho, Chan Mong communes, a distance of nearly 50km; at 5:00 p.m. on March 30, 1947, Uncle Ho arrived at Yen Kien commune (then Tay Son commune, Doan Hung district). At that time, Yen Kien had a rugged terrain, with forests covering more than 80% of the area, which was a necessary condition for secret operations. Besides, Yen Kien was also a convenient place because Mr. Nguyen Huu Da's house was more than 2km from the national highway, allowing him to both monitor and grasp the enemy's situation, facilitate communication, and ensure safety. Mr. Nguyen Huu Da was then the Head of the Viet Minh Commune Committee of Tay Son Commune. At the request of his superiors, Mr. Da moved his whole family to his father's house, 5m to the West. During the three days of March 30, 31 and April 1, 1947, Mr. Nguyen Huu Da's family gave the entire house to Uncle Ho and his comrades in the delegation to live and work. At that time, Mr. Da's house was in Dinh Mu hamlet, on both sides of the road leading to the house were tea fields, in front of the house there was a small garden and a fish pond. Currently, the garden and fish pond still exist. The house has 3 rooms, 2 lean-tos, the walls are plastered with soil mixed with straw, the roof is thatched with palm leaves, surrounded by dense, discreet trees, the front facing the fields, behind the house are cassava fields, bamboo forests, convenient for work to ensure secrecy and evacuate when necessary.

During his stay here, President Ho Chi Minh sent letters to the Government, Parliament, people of France and democratic countries around the world. He stated: “… We only want independence and unity. We only want peace. We do not want war, but we are determined to defend ourselves to the last drop of blood. We are determined not to lose our country and become slaves to colonialism again…”. Here, Uncle Ho signed two decrees: Decree No. 39/SL, abolishing all registration stamps and credit certificates in circulation before December 19, 1946, and establishing new methods of collecting taxes and registration stamps. Decree No. 40/SL, allowing a Chinese national to acquire Vietnamese nationality.
During the time Uncle Ho and the Central delegation stopped and worked in Yen Kien commune, the people of Doan Hung always raised their vigilance, increased security, and ensured absolute safety for Uncle Ho and the Central comrades; including direct contributions from the people of Yen Kien commune and Mr. Nguyen Huu Da's family.

In the last days of March 1947, the war became increasingly widespread and fierce. In Doan Hung district, French aircraft regularly scouted and bombed. At the same time, the French colonialists hastily prepared to launch a large-scale attack on Viet Bac in order to capture the resistance headquarters and destroy our main force. In that situation, to ensure safety, on the evening of April 1, 1947, Uncle Ho decided to leave Yen Kien and Doan Hung communes for Tuyen Quang to go to Viet Bac to directly lead the nation's long-term and arduous resistance war against the French colonialists.

To acknowledge and honor the historical significance of the place where Uncle Ho lived and worked in Yen Kien commune, Doan Hung district, the People's Committee of Phu Tho province issued Decision 3728/QD-UBND dated February 11, 2008 recognizing the ranking of provincial-level historical and cultural relics for the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site in Yen Kien commune, Doan Hung district.
